Bayberry is a group of deciduous or evergreen shrubs known for their aromatic leaves and small, waxy berries. The berries are used to make bayberry candles, and the leaves are used as a spice. Bayberry shrubs are also valued for their ability to fix nitrogen in the soil and their use in erosion control.
