Camel thorn (Alhagi maurorum) is a thorny, deep-rooted deciduous shrub of dry, saline waste ground and ditch edges across West Asia, from the Caucasus to the Himalayas. Its root is only eaten as an emergency food; the sweet manna exuded from its twigs and pods is the more regular edible part.
