Hoary plantain (Plantago media) is a perennial herb of dry and calcareous grassland across southern Europe to temperate Asia, and a constituent of cold semi-arid continental steppe grassland.¹ Its young leaves are eaten in salads and its sweetly scented inflorescence is sucked by children.²
