Lotus jujube (Ziziphus lotus) is a spiny, deciduous shrub of dry lands and steppe across the Mediterranean regions of Europe, Asia and Africa, harvested from the wild for its edible fruit and for medicine. It tolerates moderate frost only after a hot, dry season.
