Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) is a bracket fungus grown on hardwood logs or sawdust blocks for its traditional use as an adaptogen, turning from white to bright red as it matures.1
Inputs
- Hardwood logs (oak or maple preferred), 4-7 inches diameter, 2-4 feet long, felled in fall or winter and inoculated within 30 days; or a hardwood sawdust/bran fruiting block.1
- Spawn run: 9-18 months for logs (warm, humid, moisture maintained by light watering 1-2 times a day), or about 20 days for a fruiting block.1
- Fruiting: a shaded, humid greenhouse or forest floor, 70-75% shade cloth if under cover; mushrooms mature about 3 months after pinning begins.1
