Chinese juniper (Juniperus chinensis) is a slow-growing evergreen conifer native to East Asia (China, Japan, Mongolia, Korea and the Russian Far East), growing naturally near seashores in central and southern Japan.1 Various parts are used in traditional medicine for skin complaints and rheumatism, and low, spreading cultivars are planted as ground cover.1 It grows up to 15 m tall and 3 m wide.1
