Mahaleb cherry (Prunus mahaleb) is a deciduous tree native to central and southern Europe. Its dried seed kernels are ground into mahlab, a spice used in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern breads and pastries, and the species is also used as a rootstock for cultivated cherries.
