Turkey tail (Trametes versicolor) is a thin, leathery bracket fungus grown on sawdust-based substrates, one of the most studied medicinal mushrooms, used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years.1

Inputs

  • Substrate: hardwood sawdust with added wheat bran; a 90% sawdust/10% bran mix colonizes and fruits fastest (about 40 days total cultivation, 30 days to first harvest), while a 70% sawdust/30% bran mix gives the best yield (159 g/kg, 45.5% biological efficiency).1
  • Substrate moisture around 65%, fruiting room held at 80-90% relative humidity and about 24°C (75°F).1
