Tatarian orache (Atriplex tatarica) is an annual herb of saline and alkaline semi-desert ground, field margins, and wet plains, native from central and southern Europe to western and eastern Asia. Its leaves and young plants are only eaten as an emergency food; the seeds, used as a bread thickener or mixed into flour, are the more regular edible part.
