Small melilot (Melilotus indicus) is a fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing annual herb native to Europe (Mediterranean to E. Asia), temperate and tropical Asia, and parts of Africa, and naturalized widely elsewhere.1 Its young leaves and flowers are eaten, and its seed gruel is used medicinally, though mouldy or dried plant material can contain toxic anticoagulant compounds.1 It grows up to 0.7 m tall and 0.6 m wide.1
