Bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) is a slow-growing evergreen Mediterranean tree whose leaves are used fresh or dried as a culinary flavoring in soups, stews, and stocks. It tolerates drought, poor soil, and heavy pruning, and takes well to hedging.
