Cretan bryony (Bryonia cretica) is a deciduous perennial climbing vine of scrub and woodland across central and southern Europe, extending to North Africa and West Asia.1 Its young shoots and leaves are cooked and eaten in spring, though all other parts of the plant are poisonous and its fresh root is a severe skin irritant.1 It grows up to 3.5 m tall and 3 m wide.1
