Mediterranean climate (Köppen Csa) is a hot-summer climate with mild, wet winters and long, dry, hot summers. It covers the Mediterranean Basin itself, but also several other regions with the same climate pattern under different names — California, central Chile, the Cape region of South Africa, and parts of southern and southwestern Australia. Plants suited to it tend to be drought- and heat-tolerant with a summer dormancy or evergreen sclerophyllous habit: evergreen shrubs and small trees, aromatic mild-winter herbs, and crops like olive, fig, and grape.
