Crown vetch (Securigera varia, syn. Coronilla varia) is a perennial herb native to Europe and western Asia, from Spain to western Russia and Iran, growing in dry grassy places, embankments and roadsides. It spreads by vigorous rhizomes to form a ground cover, and the whole plant is toxic if eaten in quantity.
