Spanish juniper (Juniperus thurifera) is a slow-growing evergreen conifer of the semi-arid woodlands (sabinares) of cold semi-arid interior Spain and the Atlas Mountains, typically found on calcareous, rocky soils. It is a natural pioneer species, colonizing open and abandoned arable land.
