Mountain cherry (Prunus prostrata) is a low, spreading deciduous shrub of rocky mountains from southeastern Europe to western Asia, 0.6-1 m tall and considerably wider than it is tall.12 Its fruit and seed can be eaten raw or cooked, but are not very palatable, and bitter seeds should be avoided since they contain cyanide-releasing compounds.1
