Yellow flag (Iris pseudacorus) is a perennial herb of marshes, ditches, and shallow water across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. All parts, especially the rhizome, contain an acrid irritant resin, and the seeds are edible only when well roasted — raw seeds or root can cause vomiting and diarrhoea.1
