Smooth cat’s ear (Hypochaeris glabra) is an annual/perennial herb native to Europe, from Scandinavia south and east to N. Africa, Syria and western Asia, found on grassy fields, derelict arable land and sandy heaths. Its young leaves are somewhat bitter and are only used as an emergency food, not a regular one.
