Eurasian Solomon’s seal (Polygonatum multiflorum) is a woodland perennial herb native to Europe and temperate Asia. Its young shoots are cooked as an asparagus substitute, while its starchy root is bitter and only used as an emergency food in times of famine. It has a long history of medicinal use, but its fruits are poisonous in large quantities.1
